In-person at the Museum of Natural Science
“Special Saturdays” at the LSU Museum of Natural Science is a STEM program that focuses on introducing children and their parents to the world of natural science. We focus on a specific topic and invite experts from within the LSU research community to give short engaging talks accompanied by hands-on activities.
All programs are FREE and are especially appropriate for children ages 5-12.

|April 2nd||LSU Campus Mounds||Dr. Brooks Ellwood, Professor of Geology and Geophysics||
Did you know that there are over 700 known mound sites in Louisiana, made by Indigenous Peoples who have lived in North America for at least 22,000 years! Learn about the amazing world of LA’s earliest people and some of the fantastic mounds that they created. Talk given by Professor of Geology and Geophysics, Dr. Brooks Ellwood.
|April 16th||Antarctica Expeditions||Katherine McNulty, Geologist & Graduate Student||Joining us fresh from her research trip to Antarctica, special guest Katherine McNulty will be telling us what it is really like to do remote fieldwork on the largest desert and least populated continent in the world! Hear about Katie’s work on the McMurdo Dry Valleys Long Term Ecological Research Project and learn about snow cover in the dry valleys of Antarctica.|
|April 30th||Differences in the Brain||Dr. Ryoichi Teruyama, Associate Professor Dept. of Biological Sciences||
Learn about our most mysterious organ and answer questions, like are there differences between male and female brains? You might even get to see what a real alligator brain looks like! With special guest and brain expert Dr. Ryoichi Teruyama.
