It's National Chemistry Week, and we're excited to host the LSU Chemistry Photo Contest! This year’s theme is “Picture Perfect Chemistry,” highlighting how chemistry contributes to photography and imaging.

LSU Chemistry faculty, staff, and students creatively captured chemistry in action—whether through vibrant chemical reactions, stunning imagery, or chemistry-inspired artwork—bringing picture perfect chemistry to life.

Prof. Matthew Chambers

LSU Chemistry Professor Secures DOE Funding to Advance Sustainable Chemical Processes

October 14, 2024

Assistant Professor Matthew Chambers received an $875,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Energy Early Career Research Program to develop energy-efficient chemical processes for the petrochemical industry. Chambers aims to enhance a process called hydroformylation, a key reaction for producing fuels and plastics, by developing a new cobalt(II) catalyst that reduces energy consumption.

LSU Welcomes Professor Rabi Musah as the Patrick F. Taylor Endowed Chair in Environmental Chemistry

The LSU Department of Chemistry welcomes Professor Rabi Musah as the Patrick F. Taylor Endowed Chair in Environmental Chemistry. Musah brings a wealth of knowledge and research expertise in environmental chemistry, plant defense mechanisms, forensic science, and STEM education. Her interdisciplinary research combines innovative mass spectrometry techniques with a commitment to solving real-world environmental, health, and forensic-related challenges.

Vanessal Hulse with text stating 2024 Science Policy Fellow

LSU Graduate Student Selected as a 2024 Science Policy Fellow

August 29, 2024

LSU Chemistry doctoral candidate Vanessa Hulse has been selected as a 2024 Science Policy Fellow by the Gulf Research Program (GRP) of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine. The fellowship program will allow Vanessa to apply her research skills to policy-related issues and significantly impact the health and sustainability of Gulf Coast communities and ecosystems.

Working in the laboratory of Prof. Noémie Elgrishi, Vanessa's research focuses on removing nitrogen-containing compounds from water using electrochemical methods. The project aims to mitigate harmful algae blooms that threaten marine life and human health in the Gulf of Mexico.

Dr. Pu Duan

LSU Chemistry Welcomes New Faculty Member Specializing in Advanced Solid-State NMR Techniques

August 22, 2024

LSU Chemistry welcomes Dr. Pu Duan, who will join the LSU faculty as an assistant professor of analytical chemistry starting this Fall 2024. Dr. Duan brings a wealth of knowledge in Solid-State Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (SSNMR), focusing on its application to complex biological and material systems.
