Energy Management

The primary responsibility of the energy management group is to manage the usage of campus utilities. The department is tasked with the maintenance, repair, and operation of building automation and control systems as well as implementing energy usage optimization with the goal of campuswide energy usage reduction.

The primary objective of the Energy Management Group is to create and maintain building environments conducive to facilitating the LSU Vision and Mission Statement. Building scoring will be implemented to provide metrics for building performance and to demonstrate improvement over time. The group will work closely with HVAC, electrical, and plumbing maintenance groups to facilitate repairs and operation of building utility systems.

The primary functions of the Energy Management Group include:

  • Collect, analyze, and report building utility usage.
  • Maintain and repair utility monitoring systems.
  • Maintain and repair building automation systems.
  • Monitor and operate building automation systems (BAS) in a manner that provides intended indoor environments while optimizing building control algorithms to reduce energy usage at the building and campus level.
  • Test, balance, and verify sensor accuracy of building systems and associated components.
  • Develop optimized building scheduling in response to normal building occupancy and incidental needs.
  • Establish BAS construction standards for future and retro installations.
  • Provide technical review of campus construction projects to ensure compliance with BAS construction standards.
  • Establish needs for system modernization and improvements in support of LSU Planning, Design, and Construction project group.
