Marine Firefighting: Land-Based

Course Description:

This course provides the land-based Firefighter with the training, knowledge, and necessary skills to assist maritime personnel for the safe and effective management of shipboard fire incidents through the use of proper organization of fire parties, extinguishing procedures, and detection and suppression systems.

Subjects covered are fire fighting strategies and tactics, fire and smoke detection systems, fire control, personal protective equipment, organizational roles and structures, fire behavior, ignition sources, water and foam application, vessel construction, vessel plans and documents, types of cargo, vessel hazards and stability and coordination with marine firefighters.

Prerequisites:

Fire Fighter I or Advanced Exterior Fire Brigade Member from the Louisiana Firefighter Certification Program or another agency accredited by the International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC).
