HazMat Awareness Level
Course Description:
This course provides training for the emergency responder who, in the course of duty, maybe the first on the scene of an incident involving hazardous materials. These responders are not expected to take any action other than recognizing the hazard and contacting trained personnel. This course meets NFPA Standard 472 and EPA 40 CFR Part 311 for Awareness Level Response.

Certification Information:
The Hazardous Materials Awareness certification examination is offered by the Firefighter and Emergency Responder Certification Program to the students who successfully complete the course. This is optional and will be given at the conclusion of the course.
There is a separate charge for taking the certification exam; it is not included in the course fees. Details of the certification process and examination material can be found under the certification tab on the main page of the website. 80% attendance and participation is required in order to successfully complete the course and receive the course completion certificate.
The textbook is included with this course if a fee is paid. If this course is taken at no charge, the student must purchase their own textbook. Pre-tests and Post-tests may be given to assess the knowledge obtained from the course.
