Community Policing Programs

The Community Outreach Division offers a variety of programs to the LSU community. These programs offer educational value as well as creating an environment for interactive audience participation. 

Below is a list of commonly presented programs, however, LSU PD may modify or create a specific program to fit your needs. You may request one of the below presentations

An overview of the LSU Police Department and services provided. This presentation includes various measures of staying safe on and off campus.

30 to 45 minutes

One of the most frightening situations that might occur on a college campus is an active shooter scenario. An active shooter is a person who is actively threatening lives or prepared to threaten lives in a populated area. This presentation focuses on the response from the individuals affected during the event and the actions/response of law enforcement/emergency responders. The course give information on past occurrences and warning signs to be aware of before an attack occurs.

1 to 1.5 hours

This presentation focuses on an active bomb threat and the actions/response from the individuals affected during the event and the response of law enforcement/emergency responders. The course gives information on past occurrences and warning signs to be aware of before an attack occurs. (One of our Explosives Detection K9s may also be available for a meet).

1 to 1.5 hours

This presentation focuses on being aware of your surroundings. Our Officers will teach you methods to decrease your chances of becoming a victim of a crime. The seminar covers many topics, including sexual assault and rape prevention. The group composition will determine if self-defense tactics are incorporated into the presentation.

1 hour

Alcohol use is prevalent on many university settings. This program addresses the dangers associated with over-consumption of alcohol and also covers awareness to hazards of driving while impaired. This interactive course incorporates a Nintendo Wii, provided by partnering agencies, and also provides an opportunity to wear the impairment googles, which imitates intoxication and impaired/drunk driving. Officers will also demonstrate the Standardized Field Sobriety Tests (SFST), which is a series of tests conducted, during roadside testing, on an individual to determine impairment.  

1 to 1.5 hours

This is a discussion with LSU PD Officers and LSU students/faculty/staff with no agenda or speeches, just a chance to ask questions, voice concerns, and get to know the LSU PD Officers that keep the LSU community safe.

1 to 2 hours

This demonstration includes how to download, set up, and utilize the LSU Shield app. This app is a safety app geared towards the LSU community as another measure of keeping the community safe. Officers will completely cover the many safety features included in this app.

30 minutes to 1 hour

This presentation includes the importance of logging electronic serial numbers on paper and keeping that document in a safe place. This way, if an item, such as a laptop or cell phone is lost or stolen, the chances of recovery are greater because you will have provided the PD with the serial number. Officers will cover where to find the serial number on an item and how to document it on paper.
