Advanced Manufacturing

The Advanced Manufacturing and Machining Facility (AMMF) provides advanced manufacturing resources and services in support of education and research at LSU, as well as outside the University.

The AMMF advanced manufacturing capabilities include:

  • CNC micro-mills (3- and 5-axes),
  • Large-format wire EDM, and EDM hole drilling,
  • Additive Manufacturing machines (3D printers) for plastics (Fused Deposition Modeling, Laser Stereo Lithography, and Polyjet), metals (Powder Bed Fusion, and Atomic Diffusion), and composites (polymer matrix with both chopped and continuous fiber reinforcement).

(Click here for an inventory of equipment.)

To have work done at the AMMF, the customer will provide a drawing or 3D model, and we will consult with them about the fabrication and give them a quote (usually within one day).

The customer will then approve the work order and provide the material for the project, as well as any special tooling required.

In the case of an LSU student submitting a work order, their professor/advisor will provide approval and the LSU account number that they would like to charge.

When the project is complete, we will contact the customer and they can pick up the part(s).

In the case of an outside of University project, the customer will pay by check when they pick up the part(s). Checks should be made payable to LSU Mechanical Engineering.
