NABSW Mission Statement
The National Association of Black Social Workers, Inc., comprised of people of African ancestry, is committed to enhancing the quality of life and empowering people of African ancestry through advocacy, human services delivery and research.

The National Association of Black Social Workers, Inc. will work to create a world in which people of African ancestry will live free from racial domination, economic exploitation, and cultural oppression. In collaboration with national, international, and other appropriate groups, NABSW will continue to leverage its collective expertise to strategically develop capacity of people of African ancestry to sustain and flourish. NABSW’s vision is guided by the Principles of the Nguzo Saba, which are Unity, Self-determination, Collective Work and Responsibility, Cooperative Economics, Purpose, Creativity, and Faith, and the Seven Cardinal Virtues of Ma’at, which are Right, Truth, Justice, Order, Reciprocity, Balance, and Harmony.

Social Work Student Association (SWSA)

As a social work student, you have recognized how you can make a difference in the life of others. With your training, you understand how to help others navigate through difficult times in their lives with information and assistance. Because you are a graduate student at the LSU School of Social work, you value the power of education in leading, transforming, and empowering the community around you. We share your passion and celebrate your efforts. 

You can count on us to help you forge a deeper commitment to your beliefs by supporting your goals through your career. We are a student-run organization. We provide you with opportunities to develop skills that will help you succeed as a graduate social work student. When you become actively involved in with us, you will:

  • Develop a network with your peers now that can sustain you well after graduation
  • Get to interact with faculty and develop a different perspective of their activities
  • Participate in events that are not only fun, but make you a part of our social work community
  • Because our umbrella organization is NASW, you can start developing the kind of ties to your field that will help you advance in your chosen career as a social worker and in your personal life
