A New Era for Ogden
Welcome to a new Ogden Honors College! For the first time in its history, the Ogden Honors College will offer its students the ability to pursue a minor focused on honors coursework and co-curricular activities. Beginning in Fall 2024, students can choose an Honors Minor, Honors Research Minor, LASAL (Louisiana Service and Leadership) Minor, and LASAL Research Minor. Each of these proposed programs is designed to complement any major at LSU, promoting an interdisciplinary approach to problem-solving, strategic thinking, and creative collaboration—skills that are uniquely beneficial for the next generation of leaders in Louisiana and beyond.
Each minor will include core HNRS courses that provide exposure to the humanities, social sciences, and STEM disciplines, developing skills in critical analysis, ethical reasoning, and effective communication. A new course, HNRS 1010: Honors Core Experiences, will integrate experiential learning and reflection into the Honors curriculum. Full descriptions are below.
With these new opportunities, the Ogden Honors College joins an elite group of honors colleges and programs across the nation that offer both honors minors and majors. Ogden Honors students will be positioned to compete with their national peers, demonstrating their ability to address complex issues, articulate global perspectives, and perform across disciplinary boundaries in graduate and professional schools and a variety of workplace scenarios.
While we invite every OHC student to consider adding a minor, incoming and currently enrolled students for academic year 2024-25 may pursue the original Honors "distinctions" categories of Upper Division/Thesis Honors or College Honors. Honors academic counselors are here to help students choose the track that works for them.
We’re excited about this new chapter, which offers greater flexibility and choice in the honors pathways and further enhances our mission to serve LSU’s high-achieving students.
LSU's Roger Hadfield Ogden Honors College engages a diverse population of high-achieving students in a dynamic interaction of outstanding instruction, innovative research, and public service.
We help our students make the most of their undergraduate experience. Here, we offer an established curriculum, the opportunity for research, and faculty mentorship. Our small, seminar-based courses will give you a more dynamic and personal academic experience—one that will define you as a scholar and an individual beyond your time at LSU. We also understand that excellence transcends the classroom, so we champion holistic learning, cultural awareness, and community engagement. Our campus within a campus will become your home away from home. Here, your interests and aspirations guide your education, allowing you to serve your community, study abroad, conduct research, and prepare for your career. Here, you have the freedom to explore. By the time you walk across that stage and receive your diploma, you will have the skills and knowledge to go forth and create the future you have always wanted.
