Research
One project in our group supported by CIMM is studying input parameters in Selective Laser Melting (SLM) of AISI 316L Stainless Steel that will result in optimal desired material properties. Nanoindentation analysis is being carried out to determine nanohardness, elastic modulus, in addition to fracture toughness, wear resistance and hardness uniformityof statistically varied input parameters. Coupled with microstructural characterization, the impact of these inputs on SLM manufactured components would be determined and predicted.
