About the 2018 Sports Communication Summit
The debate is hot: How much money should local communities shell out to entice (and keep) professional sports teams? The Houston Astros World Series championship rallied the city just weeks after Houston suffered historic flooding. Sports teams also generate tangible economic benefits, but at what cost to the community? Public investments in sports bring with them enormous price tags that leave people divided. Should communities fund these teams, or is the effort futile?
2018 Sports Communication Summit Keynote Address
Charles Steinberg, President of the Pawtucket Red Sox, delivers the keynote address of the 2018 Sports Communication Summit. His speech emphasized the powerful impact sports teams have on the lives of the people in their communities and the far-reaching impact these teams have on the lives of their fans.
He was introduced by Len Sanderson, President of the Sanderson Strategies Group, and Jerry Ceppos, Dean of the LSU Manship School of Mass Communication.

The panel discussion at the 2018 Sports Communication Summit, hosted by the Reilly Center for Media and Public affairs and LSU's Manship School of Mass Communication. The panel featured Eric Engemann, President & C.E.O. of Sports Baton Rouge; David Hunn, Energy Reporter for the Houston Chronicle; Denise Michaels, Senior Vice President of the Sanderson Strategies Group; Jim Renne, Venue Architect for Rossetti, Chad Seifried, Professor in the LSU School of Kinesiology; and Ron Watermon, Vice President of Communication for the St. Louis Cardinals. The panel was moderated by Matt Moscona, host of the After Further Review show on ESPN Radio: Baton Rouge.
