Roles and Responsibilities

The goal of the program is for domestic partners to support their international partners in adapting to life in the United States and as a member of the LSU community. This partnership should allow international partners to feel more connected to other students, foster a sense of belonging, and learn more about Louisiana and U.S. culture. Domestic students will expand their worldview by learning about other countries and cultures as well as deepen their understanding of their own. Domestic and international partners alike will have the opportunity to develop both cross-cultural and interpersonal communication skills.

Overall, partners are expected to create and maintain a welcoming and respectful environment, while keeping the health and safety of each other a top priority.

Throughout the duration of the partnership, domestic students should:

  • support their international partner with informal English language skill acquisition.
  • introduce and integrate international students into the University community through extra-curricular opportunities, events, student organizations, and other on campus resources and experiences.
  • learn about their international partner's home country, culture, and language.
  • develop their intercultural and interpersonal communication skills.
