Position Description - SF3

  • Effective 7/1/15, LSU no longer has delegation for any Civil Service titles.
  • For classified position vacancies, new positions and reallocation requests, HR contacts need to begin using the new SF-3 that is attached to this email.
  • Since LSU no longer has delegation for classified titles, all Civil Service position allocations will be made by Civil Service. This will result in a 4-5 day delay in processing.
  • HR contacts should fill out all sections of the SF-3, except for Section 2, in the same way as the current SF-3. The SF-3 should be attached to the appropriate HRS form and Compensation will then send to Civil Service.

Any SF-3’s effective 7/1/15 and beyond will need to be on the new SF-3 form and will be sent to Civil Service to assign an allocation.

Classification and Pay Schedules

Classified/Civil Service Employees: Title and pay are determined in accordance with a statewide classification and pay plan established by the Louisiana Department of Civil Service. The title is a reflection of the duties and responsibilities described in the position description forwarded by LSU to Civil Service. The level of pay for each job title is determined by Civil Service on the basis of education and experience required, supervisory responsibility, job contacts, job impact and complexity, work environment and physical demands.

Classified/Civil Service employees in a nonexempt job are eligible to be compensated for overtime at a premium rate (time-and-a-half compensatory time or time-and-a-half paid). Classified employees in an exempt job may be compensated for overtime at a straight time rate (hour-for-hour compensatory time or regular-rate paid). PS-61, Overtime Policy, outlines policy details.

Academic and Unclassified/Professional Employees: The University maintains a title and pay system for Academic and Unclassified/Professional employees based on the duties, responsibilities and qualification requirements contained in position descriptions. Academic and Unclassified/Professional employees are not eligible for overtime pay or compensatory time.
