The Office of Multicultural Affairs (OMA) is a unit within the Office of Inclusion, Civil Rights and Title IX at LSU and serves underrepresented or traditionally underserved students, staff, and faculty. We promote racial, sexuality, gender, nationality, religious, and spiritual equity and inclusion. We develop students of color and provide education on diversity and inclusion challenges. We focus on the retention, recruitment, and social inclusion of all students.

Percy Jackson, M.A.

Percy Jackson is a native of Centreville, Mississippi who joined the Office of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (ODEI) team in January 2020 to provide programming, diversity education, and business operations support. Prior to his role in ODEI, Jackson served as an Assistant Director in the Office of Student Activities at the University of Houston-Downtown. Additionally, he previously worked at Louisiana State University and Jackson State University. His passion for student development, college access, and student retention spans over 13 years within Higher Education with experience in the areas of Housing and Residence Life, First Year Experience, Undergraduate Recruitment, Student Advocacy and Accountability, Title IX, Student Organization Leadership Development, Student Government Association, Student Activities, and Greek Life. In 2011, Jackson received his Bachelor of Science in Mass Communication and Bachelor of Arts in Political Science at Jackson State University. He then obtained a Master of Arts in Higher Education Administration from Louisiana State University in 2014. Jackson anticipates completing his Doctor of Philosophy in Higher Education Administration from Louisiana State University in 2023. As the Interim Director, Jackson manages the daily operations, maintenance, and staffing of the Clarence L. Barney Jr. African American Cultural Center (AACC); a 5600 square feet center which includes a library, multiple meeting spaces, computer lab, office spaces, and all-gender restrooms. Jackson’s work focuses on challenging, supporting, and cultivating the minds of a new generation of African American students at LSU toward holistic development, cultural engagement, social justice, and success in their academic endeavors while maintaining a high regard of integrity, inclusive excellence, and community standards. He serves as the primary adviser for the AACC Ambassadors, Black Student Union, and African Student Organization. Jackson also provides supervision, leadership, training and development for student staff, the Black Male Leadership Initiative (BMLI) Graduate Assistant and the African American Student Affairs & Black Women's Empowerment Initiative (BWEI) Graduate Assistant.

Iriel Nunnery is a first year Master of Social Work student from New Orleans, Louisiana. Currently, Iriel works as a Graduate Assistant in the Clarence L. Barney Jr. African American Cultural Center (AACC) and the Black Women's Empowerment Initiative (BWEI). Iriel graduated from Nicholls State University with a Bachelor of Liberal Arts with a degree in Sociology, with a concentration in Social Work and a minor in African American Studies. During her matriculation at Nicholls State, Iriel has held a plethora of positions. She served as the President of the Black Women’s Leadership Association, a mentor in Sisters Achieving Leadership and Unity through Education (S.A.L.U.T.E.), the Multicultural Chair in the university’s Student Programming Association, the head student chair for the office of Diversity Equity, and Inclusion, and a student worker in the Office of Admissions. In her capacity as Graduate Assistant, Iriel assists the Director of the AACC in coordinating, executing, and evaluating all activities; serves as an active and receptive liaison to all African American student organizations & committees on campus; works closely with the membership and advisory board of the Black Women's Empowerment Initiative (BWEI); and collaborates with appropriate faculty, staff, and student organizations to develop programs, activities, and events of particular significance to the African American student experience.
