Curriculum Vitae

Biography

Dr. Ryan Hulteen is an Assistant Professor within the School of Kinesiology. Prior to this position, he completed his PhD at the University of Newcastle in Australia, as well as two postdoctoral research fellowships at Australian Catholic University (Sydney, Australia) and the University of British Columbia (Vancouver, Canada). His research takes a developmental perspective to better understand motor skill acquisition, motor skill assessment and physical activity participation. Specifically, his research aims to understand what are the most salient motor skills needed to be active across the lifespan, how to best assess these skills at different ages and how the association between motor competence and various health-related constructs change across the lifespan. This information helps to inform the development and implementation of evidence-based strategies which promote physical activity and skill development. Thus, the long-term goal of Dr Hulteen’s work is to create feasible, translatable programs and environments which cultivate physical health and motor skill development. Dr Hulteen is currently the Media Coordinator for the International Motor Development Research Consortium.
