Love Purple Live Gold Awards

On April 25, 2023, Campus Life hosted the Love Purple Live Gold Awards. Nominations recognize student leaders, advisors, and registered student organizations for their positive contributions to the quality of student life at LSU. 

The 16 categories highlight individuals and organizations who provide leadership for the university every day. Congratulations to all of the winners!

 

Miya Tate, Graduate Student, Social Work and Public Health, Bogalusa, La. 

The Agent of Change Award recognizes a student who best demonstrates strong leadership skills while generating campus wide awareness on existing social issues.

Andrew Jewell, Freshman, Civil Engineering, New Roads, La.

The Emerging Leader Award recognizes a first-year student who demonstrates an interest in enhancing personal leadership skills by participating in leadership programs and takes on active roles in student organizations. 

Ella Otken, Senior, Biological Sciences, Denham Springs, La.

The Legacy Award recognizes one undergraduate senior who is engaged on campus and has made a long-term improvement to enhance the quality of students’ lives at LSU for future generations.

Reza Najdi, Junior, Industrial Engineering, Mandeville, La.

The Unsung Hero Award recognizes a student who has made significant differences in their respective organizations, without holding top-tier executive positions.

Tomika Smith, advisor to the Black Student-Athlete Association

The Advisor of the Year Award recognizes an advisor who provides guidance and support, builds leaders, fosters community, and contributes time and talent to their organization.

Ritu Ghose, Graduate Student, Geology and Geophysics, Baton Rouge, La.

The Graduate Student Leader of the Year Award recognizes a graduate student who has made a significant contribution to the quality of life at LSU. To be nominated for this award by peers is to be recognized for contributions to our LSU community while engaging in academically rigorous programs and research.

Nicholas Tillotson, Junior, Theatre, Gonzales, La. 

The Undergraduate Student Leader of the Year Award recognizes an undergraduate student who has made a significant contribution to the quality of life at LSU. The students selected for this award demonstrate their commitment to LSU by making a significant improvement in numerous areas of our campus community.

African Graduate Student Association

The Commitment to Community award recognizes an organization that works toward accepting responsibility for our actions, holding ourselves accountable, practicing justice and compassion in human relations and uplifting each other. The African Graduate Student Association is an organization committed to helping their members feel more connected to the university, Baton Rouge, and one another. They provide a range of social programs and opportunities for participants to develop and improve academically. Their impact has centered around providing a supportive environment to promote academic excellence among African graduate students at LSU.

The Society of Peer Mentors

The Outstanding Educational Program award recognizes a program that focuses on a specific discipline or topic that furthers knowledge in that area and encourages dialogue and learning among the attendees. This year, Girls Design for Good served as an opportunity to support and to encourage girls interested in pursuing a career in STEM. This event allowed participants to explore their interests in engineering and learn more about the challenges faced by women in STEM.

Student Government, TigerTV, and the Student Philanthropy Council

The Advocacy Program award recognizes a program that most exemplifies dedication towards the welfare of a cause, global topic, or existing social issue. The program selected for this award is one that engages students by creating awareness, providing solutions, and promoting social change. Student Government, TigerTV, and the Student Philanthropy Council created Tigercast, which reached over 200 donors to help support the financial stability of students in need on campus via the Student Emergency Support Fund.

The Outstanding Collaborative Program Award recognizes the program that best represents a program made stronger through collaboration by more than one student organization. Tigercast was built through months of intensive collaboration between three student-run organizations at LSU. In addition, the program was successful in part due to their deep focus on promoting collaboration across LSU campus.

International Student Association

The Outstanding Diversity Program Award recognizes the program that builds positive interactions among different cultures and promotes awareness of cultural and global issues. The Festival of Nations program hosted by International Student Association gave attendees the opportunity to explore different cultures and increase their global awareness through food, music, games, and social interactions.

Student Government, TigerTV, and the Student Philanthropy Council

The Outstanding Service or Volunteer Program award recognizes a program that focuses on community service and volunteerism. The outstanding service program, Tigercast, raised $4,420 for the Student Emergency Support Fund to directly support students affected by stressful situations like fires, floods, and medical emergencies.

 International Student Association

The Outstanding Social Program award recognizes a social program that offered a fun and safe environment for students to make connections. This year’s Outstanding Social Program, Festival of Nations, provided participants with a unique opportunity to explore different cultures while forming friendships, building support systems, and learning more about social and professional opportunities in Baton Rouge. 

Latinx Graduate Student Association

The New Student Organization recognizes a registered student organization that was created between January 2020 and December 2021. The Latinx Graduate Student Association worked to promote its mission on campus through programming, collaborating with other student organizations, and building relationships with departments on campus. This group is committed to providing resources for and connecting Hispanic graduate students with each other while celebrating the rich culture they contribute to LSU’s campus.

African Graduate Student Association

The Student Organization of the Year award recognizes a registered student organization that has demonstrated continuous commitment to the mission of the organization as well as academics, leadership development, student involvement, diversity, service and collaboration. The African Graduate Student Association contributes to a sense of community and support for its members through programming tailored to academic success, mental health and wellbeing, and getting connected within
