Welcome Back from the Office of Academic Affairs

LSU freshman class spells out LSU in the bleachers of Tiger Stadium

Colleagues,

Welcome back for the fall 2019 semester and, for our new colleagues, welcome home! The campus is abuzz with the largest, most diverse and most academically accomplished freshman class in LSU history. This success reflects university-wide support of recruitment, and I am appreciative of the work of our campus to achieve this goal. I am also grateful for the commitment of our faculty and staff to ensure a welcoming and inclusive community at LSU and for our commitment to student success.

This semester we launched EAB’s Student Success Management System. This system, called Navigate, is a comprehensive technology that brings together administrators, faculty, advisors and staff to support students. Navigate is currently being piloted in the University College's Center for the Freshman Year, the College of Humanities & Social Sciences, the College of Human Sciences & Education, the College of Art & Design, and the College of Agriculture and will expand campus-wide next year. You will be hearing more about Navigate throughout the year.

We will launch our first undergraduate online degree programs this fall. We have surpassed the 1,000 student mark for online enrollment, which represents a 20 percent increase year-over-year. Over the past year, we also increased the scholarly and creative work that defines our mission as a research institution. The collective effort of faculty and staff to reach these milestones is incredible. It remains a privilege to work alongside each of you to ensure that a stronger LSU is ahead. As I begin year 30 at LSU, I am more optimistic than I have ever been about our future.

Best wishes,

Stacia Haynie
Executive Vice President & Provost
