LSU Welcomes over 100 New Faculty Members to Campus

On Tuesday, August 17, LSU welcomed its newest faculty members at its annual New Faculty Summit hosted by the Office of Academic Affairs. The summit welcomes new faculty with sessions on effective teaching, university policy, promotion and tenure, research resources, Civil Rights & Title IX, diversity, equity and inclusion and more.  

LSU’s President William Tate was pleased to welcome faculty as they start their new journey at LSU.

“You, my friends, are engaged in a multigenerational activity,” said President Tate to the new cohort of LSU faculty members. “The most powerful one known to man, one of the greatest interventions of all time called the American university. And you get to change the lives not only of the students sitting in front of you, but you project into the future of the lives of their families and friends. There is no more powerful experience than that—I’m glad it’s in your hands and I know we’re in good shape.”  

The summit was held in the newly renovated Patrick F. Taylor Hall. Interim Executive Vice President & Provost Matt Lee greeted new faculty as they entered the auditorium.  

“Some of you will be teaching freshman on their very first day,” said Lee about the first day of class. “It’s an impactful experience for them. For some of them, you will be their first official LSU contact. Some of you are going to be teaching upperclassman that have been around for a while and they are really excited to be here and be back on campus. We have a great group of students. We’re really glad that you’re representing LSU and the students are eager to learn.” 

Attendees were able to meet with the dean of their college and engage in conversation over lunch. Campus Federal Credit Union sponsored the event and presented LSU a check for $11,000 to be directed toward faculty development and enrichment. Campus federal has been a long-standing partner with LSU and the Office of Academic Affairs and has sponsored many events such as New Faculty Summit, LSU’s Faculty Colloquium, REFRESH: New Energy for Teaching and events hosted by the Learning & Teaching Collaborative.
